What is the Canada Greener Homes Grant and who is eligible for it
Canada’s commitment to green initiatives is exemplified in the Canada Greener Homes Grant. The program provides Canadian homeowners with funding assistance to complete energy-efficient renovations. Homeowners in Ontario may be eligible for up to $5000 worth of grants and rebates towards qualifying projects, such as the installation of heat pumps. Heat pumps offer numerous benefits for homeowners as they consume less energy compared to standard furnaces, leading to reduced emissions and decreased utility bills. Furthermore, Canada Greener Homes Grants are also available for home insulation upgrades, window and door replacements, whole house ventilation systems improvements and more. To apply for this grant, applicants must own a detached dwelling that is their primary residence, have an individual or household gross income lower than a certain amount, occupy the home at least six months out of the year and not have received government assistance on pre-existing improvements prior to making their application. Canada’s commitment to green efforts has never been stronger – with Canada Greener Homes Grant everyone has an opportunity to better their home’s energy efficiency!

Greener Homes Grant Application Process
First step is to apply for the grant using the Canada Greener Homes Grant Website, here: https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy-efficiency/homes/canada-greener-homes-grant/23441.
You’ll need two documents handy for the online application:
1 – Property Tax # (sometimes called Roll #)
2 – Government Issued ID
Sign-in & Account Registration
When you first enter the process, you’ll need to sign in. You can sign in by creating a “GC Key”, which is a secure username and password you generate via email registration. The other option is to sign in with a “Sign In Partner”. If you have online banking with a Canadian Bank, they will be listed as a sign-in partner, and you can easily use your banking credentials to securely register yourself for an account. This information is used for identity verification purposes only, it has no connection to your online banking system. In either case, you’ll get an email confirming your registration, you’ll need to verify by clicking the link in the email. The link will bring you back to the Canada Greener Homes Grant webpage, where you’ll then “Create a new application”.
Tax Roll # & Service Organization Selection
Be sure to read through all the documentation the website provides. You’ll need to select the type of home you have and confirm that this is your primary address. The system will ask you if you pay property taxes, and when you confirm this you’ll provide your Roll #. After this you’ll need to select a “Service Organization”, this is for choosing the organization that will send the Auditor and completes the paperwork for your project.
Upload Government Issued ID
From here you’ll need to upload your government-issued ID (this doesn’t need to be a photo, just a document that has the same address that you are registering for). Read through all the declarations and confirm you agree.
That’s it! Your home retrofit journey is underway. The service organization you selected will contact you to schedule your Energuide Energy Audit. Once you are all setup, head over to our Qualify form to get started on your heat pump installation journey!
